The Australian Government Indigenous Apprenticeships Program (AGIAP) offers an incredible opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals eager to start their careers in the public sector. This initiative is a key part of the government's commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, providing a pathway for Indigenous Australians to make a significant impact through their work.

About the Program

The AGIAP is a 12-month program that not only promises participants a permanent, full-time, entry-level position within the Australian Public Service (APS) but also offers job security, a competitive salary, and opportunities for career advancement. Importantly, it includes the chance to achieve a nationally recognized certificate or diploma qualification, paving the way for further professional development.

Participants will find themselves in a variety of roles across numerous departments and agencies, such as administration, policy and program development, service delivery, finance, human resources, and information technology. This wide range of opportunities ensures that every apprentice can find a match for their interests and skills, contributing to meaningful projects and services.

Eligibility and Application

To be eligible, applicants must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, have a desire to learn, and be motivated to make a positive difference in the lives of Australians. The program values on-the-job training, making it accessible even to those without specific skills or qualifications. However, it's ideal for candidates to have completed Year 12 (or equivalent) or Year 10 (or equivalent) with at least 2 years of work experience or further education. Those with 3 or more years of work experience in any field are also encouraged to apply.

Why Apply?

The AGIAP stands out for its commitment to providing not just a job but a career pathway within the APS. It's an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop a wide range of skills, and work on projects that have a real impact on the community. For Indigenous Australians keen to start their career journey, contribute to the public sector, and secure a future with numerous growth opportunities, the AGIAP is an opportunity not to be missed.
